B39 Despedida (farewell)

Lex and Anna chuggin' chicha

Erin and Katie handing off the cholita outfits for the next relay

In Bolivia they call farwell parties despedidas. Usually when Peace Corps vols say goodbye to eachother it’s a big deal. So, instead of having two days of sobbing and sad stories, some volunteers coordinate crazy relay races that involve chugging an alcoholic drink fermented from corn, dressing up like a native indigenous woman known as a cholita, and playing with yucky mud. (ha!) The official date of B39’s departure was July 26th and most of the group has left, but thankfully there are a few B39ers that decided to extend their service for a couple of months or longer. One member in particular I’m very glad about decided to stay a whole year longer (wink! wink!)
