I arrive at Miami int´l airport in plenty of time and realize that the boxes i want to check aren´t allowed to be checked b/c there is a HUGE embargo tax on things in BOXES. Yes, not bags, or suitcases, but b/c i packed my extra things in a box (which to me seems logical and accomodating for the airplane crew) i was going to be charged up to $100/box!!!! So after much discussion w/ an AA employee we decided the best decisions would be to buy a huge bag (that of course they could provide) take all that i had packed in the boxes then shrink wrap the bag (that they could do all for $34 bag and wrapping included). This option saved me a good $175 in the end and i´m thankful i could somehow beat the system of overweight luggage.
After that little ordeal, i bought myself a slice of my last american style pizza i would have for a while and ate it at my gate where my plane would arrive withing the next hour. i ate my pizza and was pretty full so i decided to take a little nappy nap. i had a good one, but awoke to the announcement of our one hour delay to getting back to Bolivia. Which means by then i would´ve been in the airport for a good four hours. ugh!!!! i should´ve expected my plane to be late, i was heading home to the country of lateness, i was so nieve to believed it wouldn´t spill over into U.S. territory!
the icing on the cake is that when i finally arrive in la paz safely (thank you lord) i´m told the news of a city wide protest the following day where nothing ABSOLUTELY nothing will be open or in service, including the taxi drivers that i needed to get me to airport the next night to catch my flight to Cochabamba, my last destination city before i reach my home. (sigh) Thank goodness i packed a ton of food b/c not single restaurant was open this morning. it´s now 3;15pm and i passed by a tiny restaurant that just opened and i´m dying for some real substenance. i´ve been eating all my little snacks and candies just to fill my belly and it´s just not cutting it.
anyway, I´m back in Bolivia safe and sound, I´M SO GLAD TO BE A PEACE CORPS VOLUTNEER!!! I LOVE MY JOB, I LOVE MY JOB, I LOVE MY JOB!!!!! (ha!)
i´ll keep ya´ll updated.
