1 white fitted tee
1 tank top (luckily layered that day)
1 pair of hiking shoes
1 pair of socks
1 pair of jeans
1 backpack (which happened to have a pair of undies i forgot to unpack from previous trip)
1 pair of undies
These were the only things i was wearing/carrying when i came into Cbba Mon. Jan. 8th
I survived for almost two weeks on just those clothing items, plus some borrowed items:
two tees
a sarong
pair of shorts
a tank top
a pair of socks
Yeah, it sucked at first, but in Santa Cruz wearing a sarong every other day wasn't too out of the ordinary! (ha!)
The events:
Thursday, JAN. 11:
Everything on the news was getting a little crazy looking. However, we (the volunteers stuck in the city) hung out at the hostal and kept our cool. We received a phone call that night at the hostal informing us that we were to leave for Santa Cruz city via airplane Friday afternoon.
Friday, JAN. 12:
We were picked up at 6AM, yest 6AM to leave for the airport and ended up spending seven hours sitting, sleeping, and lounging in the Cochbamba airport until our scheduled flights. I was thankful it was only seven hours and not 10 like it was supposed to be (we arranged it so we caught an earlier flight). We made it to Santa Cruz safely and were welcomed with a mild humidity, palm trees, and hot weather. (i'd like to note that Cbba. is perfect weather almost all year round, i'd compare it to that of weather in New Mexico, dry, not too hot and sometimes cool at night) So, you can imagine us Cochabambinos reacting to the weather of Santa Cruz with perspiration and the slow submission of lazy sleepiness due to the heat. (all i needed was a hammock)
Friday, JAN. 19:
Our safe return home was well welcomed. We were so glad to the idea of going back to our sites. We wanted to get back to our work, our beds, our homes, I was so relieved when i crawled into my mosquito/vinchuga tent and straw bed. Don't get me wrong, Santa Cruz was great, but living on just what i had wasn't the best situation to be in while in Santa Cruz.
For all of you that were concerned, i'm back in my site, safe. Healthy with the exception of some stomach problems from being to adventurous and drinking water from the tap and a little sore throat. I don't even want to think about the little bacteria buddies swimming around in my stomach causing me uncomfort. Slowly, but surely, i'm growing immunity to those little boogers and will soon have a stomach of steel -at least that's what i'm hoping. (weary grin)
