Weekend at the Hamptons!

Uh okay, my weekend wasn’t quite like a weekend at the Hamptons. (Like I would even know what that would feel like) However, this weekend was as close to a typical weekend in the states as possible.

Saturday I went to the pool with the orphans practically all day to celebrate Children’s Day. We swam, played basketball, jumped rope, and played a Bolivian version of dodgeball that I’ll have to introduce to you guys if you don’t already know it. The picture is of the staff and a girl of the orphanage. The gringa is another volunteer named Kallen that I’ve been very happy to have to speak English to during the week.

Sunday my family invited me to a brunch at a fancy restaurant. However before going to brunch we stopped by the Sunday vaca market. I’m sure you can guess from my picture vaca means cow. These were some big ‘ole cows lemme tell you. Well, what I’m pictured with are bulls. I was afraid of getting closer because of their huge horns, going price for a quality cow was something between 1.500 – 2.000 bolivianos! (that’s about $265 USD!)

I don’t know how much cows cost in the states, but I do know that the majority of these people only make about 400 bolivianos/month, so these cows are big money for them.

So, swimming on Saturday in an actual pool and eating brunch at a nice restaurant, I’m living the high life, baby! Are you jealous, yet?

p.s. the Bolivian post office workers are now creeping up on a 14 day long strike, so i won't be getting my postcards out or receiving your pkgs/letters anytime soon. (sigh)
