New Year's 2007

Unfortunately I don’t have any pictures from Christmas, but some funny ones from New Year’s Eve. One is of the volunteers closest to me (only 8km away!). Bolivians celebrate the New Year by clearing out a house of any furniture except some chairs to clear the floor for some dancin’ and partyin’! Each person pays about 50bs (about $6) or so for unlimited liquor and beer and even a small to go plate of food! Then, some stay up until 6AM to feast on a traditional meal called fricace. It’s usually served in La Paz and Cochabamba and I was fortunate enough to be awake enough to enjoy my meal at 6AM after an entire night of dancing. Yes, people, believe it, I stayed up until 6AM to have this tasty soup that reminded me of chicken chili minus the beans (I missed the beans). The white chunks are choclo: a type of corn grown in BO. Not my favorite veggie, but they say it’s packed with nutrients.
